Archive: "About me" page 2011

The About me page has been updated!

For those of you who never saw the old one, I've recreated it here:

I know that only a very small percentage of you lurkers might actually attempt to read this. If you're one of those few, I congratulate you. Of course, by this point, 99% of you have gotten bored from reading an entire sentence and moved on to view my photos or lurk around somewhere else. For the one person that's reading this right now: I'll try to make it worth your while.

My name is Joe Jiko. If you ask me where I'm from, I'll say "everywhere".. and I live in Florida. I enjoy creating and occupy myself creating graphics for the web and print. I'm sure I've made that pretty obvious already. I like my eyes, my hair, and being clean. I'm hardly ever wrong, because I don't say anything unless I know I'm going to be right. I don't have many enemies, but I don't have many friends. A lot of people know my name, know my face, but don't know me.
Get to know me, I won't disappoint you.

Who I would like to meet:

Anyone who is motivated and has goals for their life. Intelligent, honest, open-minded, forward thinking, and friendly people. Everyone else can expect to be met with indifference. I'm careful of the company I keep as I've had enough with all the trash people in this world who are wasting their lives and trying to drag everyone down to hell with them. Pretty straight forward, right?

Where am I going? Where am I now?

I moved to Pinellas County, FL on April 3rd, 2009 from Culpeper, Virginia. Florida is such a change from Virginia, but I'm used to it now. It's nice having my family close! I currently live in Clearwater and I'm employed full time as a graphic designer & web designer at Willy Walt and part time at Staples as a Resident Easy Tech. I also take on free lance work doing.. basically anything computer, art, or Internet related. For now, I plan to stick around Florida and continue to build up my portfolio and client base. At some point I want to move out of Florida to a place where the job market is healthy.. or at least healthier. Who knows if a place like that still exists in the US?

Web design? Creative Spine?

I'm a self-taught and motivated, professional, full time graphic designer, web designer, web developer, and computer technician.

I can do many things:

  • I design web sites, web interfaces, interactive forms, twitter backgrounds, and web banners

  • I develop web sites using html5, css3, PHP/MySQL, and javascript/jquery

  • I create & manipulate graphics in Photoshop and draw in Illustrator.

  • I can enhance photos and manipulate them

  • I design for printing products such as business cards, brochures, envelopes, and folders.

You need help with something computer related? I'm always willing to help you in the right direction. Visit my contact page and send me an email! I always try to reply to everyone. So what're you waiting for?

What now? Want to know more?

Leave me a comment! Say "Hi", call me a jerk, tell me stories, I doesn't matter what you say as long as you say something. Don't be an anonymous lurker! I want to hear from you. I want to know who you are. If you want to know more about me,
feel free to ask me anything! I will always respond if you send me emails.

For more reading, and insights into my thoughts and activities, you can go
read my blog. If you want something to look at, I've set up a photo gallery with samples of my artwork, doodles, and lots of life photos. If you have questions or want to read what others have asked me, visit the questions section. It's anonymous! (kind of like formspring except I made it from scratch).

Thanks for reading! If you read this whole thing, how about letting me know what you think? I'd love to hear from you!

Postcard project update

My paper folding machine couldn't fold the 12pt paper I had my postcards printed on.. so now I'm going to be occupied all night with folding over 100 cards by hand! I stopped by a nearby Michaels to see if they had anything to help with my folding process. They didn't. I ended up buying a "bone folder" and a gridded mat. The Internet yielded a few tutorials so.. wish me luck!

Once everything's folded, I'll need to:
1) print the addresses and design on the envelopes
2) hand write messages on each card
3) lick and stamp

I should be able to drop them off tomorrow! People close by will get a hand delivered card from me :)

For those of you who don't know the difference between Geek and Nerd..

Geek

One of four titles used to classify someone based on their technical and social skills. The other three titles are nerd, dork, and normie. The difference between the four titles can be easily shown in table form:

Title Technical Skills Social Skill
Normie No Yes
Geek Yes Yes
Nerd Yes No
Dork No No

Normie
A normal person. Blah.

Geek
An outwardly normal person who has taken the time to learn technical skills. Geeks have as normal a social life as anyone, and usually the only way to tell if someone is a geek is if they inform you of their skills.

Nerd
A socially awkward person who has learned technical skills due to the spare time they enjoy from being generally neglected. Their technical knowledge then leads normies to neglect them even further, leading to more development of their technical skills, more neglection, etc. This vicious cycle drives them even more into social oblivion.

Dork
A person who, although also socially awkward, doesn't have the intelligence to fill the void with technical pursuits, like a nerd, and is forced to do mindless activities. Almost always alone. Usually with an XBox. Like playing Halo. All day. Every day. Not even understanding how the Xbox is making the pretty pictures on the screen. Very sad.

Creative personality anonymous palm reading

I found this while browsing the Internet one day. Unfortunately, I didn't note the source. Most of these match my personality dead-on.

1. He thinks out side the box and, as for his lifestyle, he hasn’t even noticed where the box is as he doesn’t live inside boxes of any sort.
2. A great risk-taker and gam bler. He enjoys it, but the money he wins doesn’t stick around very long.
3. For some one as loud, intense and emphatic as him self, he is sur pris ingly gen tle with babies, kit tens and grand moth ers’ teacups.
4. His senses are aware of the fine details and dif fer en ti a tion in all sen sory input. An incred i bly fine tuned sense of touch, taste, smell and visual aes thetic.
5. This is a per son who is NOT in the least bit into self-denial! He wants what he wants and will go after it directly.
6. In most sit u a tions, he will auto mat i cally assume that he is in charge and then be very sur prised if any one objects or chal lenges his author ity. It doesn’t bother him to be chal lenged, just very, very sur prised.
7. Not in the least bit passive-aggressive. If he is angry at you, he will let you know imme di ately and emphat i cally.
8. He can be extremely moody, with bouts of both depres sion and ela tion through out his life. A lit tle more ten dency to the depres sion, but has gen uinely upbeat times as well. Work ing on projects that use his imag i na tion will always lift him up as cre ativ ity is his best escape from depres sion.
9. A love of the writ ten and spo ken word: music, poetry and lit er a ture. A well-turned phrase delights him as much as a well-turned omelette. If this per son is not a writer, he should be.
10. Cre ative, imag i na tive think ing is as nat ural to him as breath ing.
11. Innately and nat u rally monog a mous in his true love rela tion ships. He may have a bit of a rov ing eye and a rov ing hand, but he doesn’t have a rov ing heart.

Number 8 is the story of my life.
